The glass of the dome is very thick, BUT I realized this is also a punch bowl, trifle bowl, salad bowl... It has to be more dependable than a thin shell of glass that only has to cover a cake.Also, I'd have a hard time saying its got 6 uses when one is a cake stand and one is a cake stand with a cover on it. That's pretty much the same use, I'd say. OH and then there's the chip and dip, then the chip and dip with a cover on it... Whining aside, this is a good idea. I don't want to buy a cake stand, and a chip and dip dish and a punch bowl. I don't use any of these often enough to find places to store them in my home.
